I purchased a brand new Acura RSX in 2003. Within 7000 miles the transmission (5 speed) began to chatter shifting between 2nd and 3rd. At 12,000 miles the clutch began to "slip" shifting to 3rd gear. At 12,971 miles it failed completely. The dealership, CONTINENTAL ACURA of NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS immediately diagnosed the condition as NORMAL wear and tear and told me that the clutch and flywheel would need to be replaced and that I would have to pay $1040.00. I reequested a meeting with the Field Representative. He immediately agreed with the dealership. What a surprise. He stated that they normally change the cluthc assembly on their racing team cars every race. Now, what this has to do with a street version of the RSX, I don't know. Anyway, he said that AFTER they tore down the transmission they would make a determination as to whether or not this was a defect or a wear issue. Keep in mind that they made that decision before they even touched the car. After taking the transmissionm apart, I was informed that this was "normal" and that it was not covered under warranty. I highly recommend that this message be spread far and wide and that anyone with the time needed to do some research please be advised that Acura, Honda of America, and Continental Acura of Naperville, Illinois be considered as the choice of last resort. Their goal is to screw their customers. Take the time to peruse the internet to fin at least 3000 complaints regarding this particular subject as well as fledgling class action lawsuits.
